What Makes Second Foundation Different?
A COMMITMENT TO FREEDOM OF INQUIRY
Our programs are not just about celebrating past visionaries: We coordinate on future visions alongside technologists who are marginalized by cultural barriers today and various pathological academic norms.
We believe strongly that our experiences are not simply isolated occurrences. We have found that discussing details of how talent has been sidelined, you can find features of a solution in common.
Who are the visionaries of today? What are the fields at the margins, those that will become the fields at the center?
IMAGINATION IS INCENTIVIZED
Hermann Hesse’s “Glass Bead Game” alluded to an abstract synthesis of all arts and sciences. Playing the game well required years of hard study of music, mathematics, and cultural history; so it is with Second Foundation.
The Glass Bead Game was meant to be set in a far-off land, “Castalia” sometime out there in the 25th century, but we are a set of pioneers and innovators in disparate parts of society.
Second Foundation understands that the time is now to re-invent and re-imagine the current trajectory we find ourselves on.
LEGAL WORK FOR GLOBAL CAUSES
Our investigations involve a re-evaluation of implicit societal contracts—be they in the home or in the workplace, with the development of technology, or in markets.
We work with diverse legal teams to provide lobbying for and template contracts to create industry norms and effect productive change, on issues our members would like to effect change in.
